Qualche spiegazione – Some explanation

Val d’Orcia – 2009

Everything began from a panoramic photo; one of those pictures that you take because you must, because the scenery is there, easy, available, the day is sunny, you’re just strolling around, thus you stop, frame and click without even spending much time in composing the image because the scenario is beautiful however.

So, I did, and I took home a photo of the Val d’Orcia with all of its vineyards, its fields, its terrain-reliefs, its interlacing tracks…

It was only when I looked at the picture quietly that I noted the geometries plotted by the different properties; the polygons, some regular, some odd, the colors shading into each other or heavily contrasting.

It was then that I developed the idea of extracting those shapes and crossings from the entire photo; changing the very material subject of the fields and plants into abstract images, combining the work of the farmers who leave their marks on the ground with the technical potential of photography, that allows creating perspective and illusions.

Developing those ideas, I will continue to deepen, for a while at least…to create the most abstract images that can be found on “The Painted Geometries” page along with the photos with walls called “The Walls” page…
